September 2018 Makeup Basket.

LeahERaven.com | September 2018 Makeup Basket

Hello there!  Thanks for stopping by!  Hope all is well on this fine day for you.  Today’s post is one that is super exciting for me, my September Makeup Basket.  Now, let me start off by saying my No-Buy/Makeup Detox is not going so well for me.  I’ve bought quite a bit of makeup the past couple of weeks.  I’ve allowed myself to be sucked in.  Although, now I truly feel safe to say I have everything I need to last me quite a bit… although we could argue that I had plenty before then too.  Oh well.  I don’t plan to make another haul post, because I feel I have had too many of those recently unless you truly wish to read about it then let me know in the comments.

Anyway, to tie in why I’m excited about this months makeup basket and my recent purchases is because I picked up the new launches of Makeup Revolution and EMILY NOEL!  I’ve been watching Emily for over 6 years now and her Beauty Broadcast.  She kept her palette launch so hush-hush that when I found out she was launching something it was on the 22nd, there was no way I was going to miss out on it.  So this month, I’m going to be using the shit out of it!  But enough of this chit-chat, let’s get into the products now, shall we?

LeahERaven.com | September 2018 Makeup Basket: Primer & Foundation

If you aren’t aware, I’m currently doing the 13 By Halloween Project Pan so I won’t be mentioning any of those products in this basket but onto primer and foundation.  It has still been somewhat warm here in Seattle, so I’ve been really utilizing the Milani Prime Shield Pore Filling + Mattifying Face Primer ($9.99 US Affiliate Link | Regular Link).  Plus I’m almost done with this bad boy and since fall is coming (Halle-fucking-lujah) I won’t be needing this during the cooler months.

For foundations, I’m still getting a feel for the FLOWER Beauty Light Illusion Foundation ($13.99 US Affiliate Link | Regular Link) so I want to keep playing around with that one.  I also decided to throw in the Wet N Wild MegaCushion Foundation SPF 15 ($8.99 US Affiliate Link | Regular Link) and the Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation ($10.99 US Affiliate Link | Regular Link).  I bought the Wet N Wild foundation on my previous Ulta haul and when I picked up the Emily palettes, I picked up the Catrice foundation.

LeahERaven.com | September 2018 Makeup Basket: Face Powders

Onto the face powders (excluding highlighters obviously) I’m trying to use up the Maybelline Fit Me Loose Setting Powder ($7.99 US Affiliate Link | Regular Link).  Really beautiful powder, but once gone, will not be repurchasing.  Once I finish my Wet N Wild Brulee shadow, I want to finish up the fair shade in the Kat Von D Shade & Light Contour Palette ($49 US Affiliate Link | Regular Link), start making progress on the yellow middle shade, and make more progress on the contour shade.

For blush, I’m using both the Kat Von D Metal Crush Eyeshadow in Raw Power (discontinued) and the Kat Von D Lolita Single Shadow ($19 US Affiliate Link | Regular Link).  I decided to pull out Raw Power because Amber F has mentioned using it as a blush and I thought I’d give it a whirl.  Yet another way to multitask a product.

LeahERaven.com | September 2018 Makeup Basket : Highlighters

Oh highlighters, probably one of my favorite steps in my makeup application.  For September, I wanted to go a bit cooler with the highlight, because again, ready for fall here.  So I decided to pull the Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips in Natural ($13.99 US Affiliate Link | Regular Link), just in case I wanted to go icy, pinky, nude, or more gold.  I also decided to keep in my Essence Single Shadow in the Grammy Goes Glammy (discontinued shade, $1.99 Affiliate Link | Regular Link).  Last but not least, my all-time fave, the Anastasia Beverly Hills Starlight Illuminator (discontinued).

LeahERaven.com | September 2018 Makeup Basket : The Emily Edit - The Wants

LeahERaven.com | September 2018 Makeup Basket : The Emily Edit - The Wants

On to the item I am the MOST excited about.  This bad boy above.  The Makeup Revolution and Emily Noel: The Emily Edit: The Wants ($20 US Affiliate Link | Regular Link).  No picture does this palette justice, it is so gorgeous in person.  I feel Emily did an amazing job on the color selection in this palette and I truly feel you have everything you need to create a full look.  I’m beyond stoked to play with this palette, I just can’t contain myself!

LeahERaven.com | September 2018 Makeup Basket : Lip Products

To go with this palette, I wanted to pick more mauve toned lip products, a solid nude shade, a gloss, and a bold red.  Mostly because those are shades (not these particular ones mind you) Emily tends to go for (besides berries) and I thought it would be another great little homage to her.  For liquid lipsticks, I pulled the EM Cosmetics Infinite Lip Clouds in Rose Nude ($16 US Regular Link), Huda Beauty Liquid Lipsticks in Flirt and Spice Girl ($20 US Affiliate Link | Regular Link), and Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Noohz Fur Atoo ($20 US Affiliate Link | Regular Link).  I only pulled one regular lipstick and that is Jeffree Star Cosmetics Lip Ammunition in Celebrity Skin ($18 US Regular Link) and for gloss the NYX Professional Makeup Butter Gloss in Madeline ($4.99 US Affiliate Link | Regular Link).

LeahERaven.com | August 2018 Makupe Basket

Well, with how excited I am about September’s makeup basket, why don’t we talk a little bit about how August’s makeup basket went.  I made some more progress on my Kat Von D Shade & Light Eye Contour Palette ($48 US Affiliate Link | Regular Link), but still no pan showing on any of the shades.  I also realized, that even though the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade ($18 US Affiliate Link | Regular Link) is an incredible product, an amazing bang for your buck, it’s just not for me.  It takes too much time to perfect my brows and even though in the long run brow pencils are more expensive, I prefer them greatly.  Although, if the ELF Brow Pencil ($2 US Affiliate Link | Regular Link) keeps working out for me, I might not have to ever spend that much again!  Also, a quick side note about the ELF pencil, it has almost 3 times the amount of product than my Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz ($21 US Affiliate Link | Regular Link) and the Kat Von D Signature Precision Brow Pencil ($20 US Affiliate Link | Regular Link).

The only dud really has been the NYX Professional Makeup Worth The Hype Mascara ($7.99 US Affiliate Link | Regular Link) and honestly, it wasn’t terrible.  The only issue I had with this mascara is that I’ve already had to revive it because it dried up and it does not hold a curl.  However, it did look nice on my lashes and didn’t flake but my Essence mascaras are less expensive, usually around the $5 mark, volumizes and lengthens them better, and holds a curl.

Well, surprise surprise, another lengthy post.  I guess when I get to typing, I just go.  Doesn’t surprise me because I tend to be a chatty Kathy in general.  I want to know though, do you do monthly makeup baskets?  And if so, what products are you pulling in this month and why?  Also, if you are in the northern hemisphere, are you as ready for fall as I am?  Halloween, Fall, and Pumpkin freak over here.  I am READYYAY FALL!  Would you be interested in me doing some fall looks at all?  I’m not a makeup artist in anyway shape or form, but I enjoy watching everyday makeup wearers showcase looks they come up with.  Let me know, I wouldn’t mind giving it a try.  Thank you so much for your time today, I hope you come back Wednesday, and until next time!

Go-To Look Using August 2018 Makeup Basket

d with VSCO with c6 preset

Wednesday last week, I posted my makeup basket for August.  If you haven’t checked that post out yet, I will link it here for you.  Today I thought I would share how I utilize those products and showcase the main look I go for with these products.  As I’ve said in previous posts, I am an avid YouTube watcher and one thing I enjoy watching are makeup baskets and get ready with me videos using those items.  So if you are interested in my Go-To Look for August, just keep on reading!  Also, I’m doing something different this post, let me know how you like it; all links will be added at the end offering my affiliate link and the regular link.  Affiliate links don’t cost you anything but do help my site.  However, I know not everyone is comfortable using them so I wanted to start offering the regular link as well.  Anyway, on to the post!

08062018-primers

First off, I start with my base.  Before I even start the makeup process, my skin is cleaned and moisturized, ready for the first layer.  The Milani Prime Shield Mattifying Primer goes on first.  It’s been quite hot here in Washington and my oils have been pushing through more than normal up here.  I just apply this primer where I get oily, which is my T-Zone and chin.  For my skin, this has helped me stay more matte throughout the day then without.  This is currently my second bottle and I am almost finished with this one.  Then on the outer perimeter of my face, I apply the Pur Correcting Primer: Illuminate & Glow (discontinued).  I enjoy this, it does give my face a wonderful glow.  However, even if it wasn’t discontinued, I would not repurchase because I don’t tend to reach for glowy primers.

08062018-foundationandconcealer

On to foundation and concealing.  My preferred method of application for both is my beauty sponge.  Currently, I am using the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge.  The one downfall of the sponge, not just this sponge but any sponge, is that it tends to soak up a bit of product; it usually takes around 4 pumps of the Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup to cover my entire face and down my next a little and it gives me about high-medium coverage.  Next is concealer which is the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer.  I swipe a little on my under eyes, the sides of my nose where it tends to get red, and a little on top of my eyes as a primer.

08062018-powderandshadow

Once my liquids are blended in, it is time to set my face.  Right now I am multitasking the Wet N Wild Brulee Shadow, using it to set my concealer on my under eyes and face, as well as setting the concealer on my eyes.  Then I use the Rimmel Stay Matte Translucent Powder to set my entire face.

08062018-faceproducts

Moving onto the rest of the face, I take the No7 Bronzer in Golden Sands and lightly bronze the perimeter of my face, using the “3” method to lightly graze my temples, the hollows of my cheeks, and my jawline.  I have to use a light hand with this product because it tends to pull orange on my pale skin.  I feel it is better suited for light to tan complexions.  Following that, I use the Catrice Prime and Fine Professional Contouring Palette in Ashy Radiance and dust that in the hollow of my cheeks and the sides of my nose.  For blush, I am multitasking another product, my Kat Von D Shade & Light Eye Contour Palette, using the shade Ludwin as a peachy blush.  It is very light, so if you are deeper than me, I don’t think that shade will show up on you.  Highlight I am currently using an eyeshadow, which is the Essence Single Shadow in The Grammy Goes Glammy.  For my fair skin, this gives a very wet look to my skin and I have been loving it!  Unfortunately, they no longer make this shade anymore, but Apricotta and Snowflake are also very beautiful as highlights for fair to light skin.  I buff the product into the high points of my cheekbones, sweeping it up and around to the tops of my eyebrows, a little on the tip of my nose, and my cupids bow.

For eyes, I pulled my Kat Von D Shade & Light Eye Contour Palette and I am focusing on the “Warm-Toned” section of this palette, which includes the shades Ludwin, Succubus, Sytry, and Latinus.  My eye look that I’m going for is super simple, has probably been showcased a million times, and honestly, I think it is the eye look that came with the palette.  Anywho, I have been taking Latinus, the very light cream shade and putting it all over my lid up to the brow bone.  Since I am fair, this shade does match my skin tone.  With a large, fluffy brush, I pick up the light peachy shade called Ludwin and run that through my crease, being very careless with it.  I don’t go for perfect.  After I feel enough pigmentation has been built up (these are older shadows mind you, this is my oldest palette), I pick up on a smaller crease brush the rust shade called Succubus.  I focus that on the outer “V” of my eye and lightly bring it into the crease.  Focusing the majority of the product on the outer “V”.  Lastly, it’s time to bring in that warm, deep brown called Sytry.  Using the same brush that I used for Succubus, I solely focus this on the outer “V’.  For my lower lash line, using the same brush that I used for both Succubus and Sytry, I dip it lightly into those two shades, tap off the majority of the excess, and run it along the lower lash line, but avoiding going all the way towards the inner corner.  To highlight the inner corner, I just used the Essence shadow.  Here is an up-close look at my eyes.  Like I said, simple, nothing crazy.

At this point, all of my powder products are done so I set my face with the Milani Make It Last Setting Spray, then move on to the rest.  This is also my second bottle of this setting spray and I think it is wonderful, works just as well as the Urban Decay setting spray in my opinion.  You only get 2.03oz of product though, but still ends up being cheaper than the Urban Decay setting sprays.  I then curl my lashes and apply a coat or two of the NYX Professional Makeup Worth The Hype Mascara.  This is an okay mascara, it looks pretty but does not hold a curl.  I have 2 in my back stock, but after those two, I would not repurchase.  On my inner rim, I glide on the Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal in 005 Nude.  I enjoy this eyeliner, it stays incredibly well on my waterline, but unfortunately, I will not repurchase because Rimmel is not cruelty-free.

For my eyebrows, I actually pulled in my Kat Von D Signature Brow Precision Pencil in Graphite instead of using my Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade in Granite.  I did this because it was taking me between 5 and 10 minutes to do my brows with the pomade.  Now, it is a great product and you get killer bang for your buck but I need something less finicky in the morning when I am getting ready for work.  This product I have been loving!  I’ve been able to achieve more natural like brows and it takes me no time at all.  I love the shape of the applicator, at first I was a bit apprehensive, but it works great.  Plus, doesn’t fade and looks great all day.  I will definitely be repurchasing this product.  To set those bad boys, I’ve been using the NYX Professional Makeup Control Freak Clear Eyebrow Gel.  I have no idea how long I have had this product, but it hasn’t dried out and still works great.  You definitely don’t need to spend an arm and a leg for a great eyebrow gel.

08062018-katandem

Last, but certainly not least are the lips!  Lip products are my downfall, I swear to God.  I love lip products!  For my go to, when I’m not at work, I have really been loving the combination of the Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lip Creme in Bow N Arrow topped with a little bit of the EM Cosmetics True Gloss in Truffle Haze.  Both of these, if ever I manage to use up these products, are definite repurchases!  The lipstick is very comfortable but matte and it also smells like fucking COOKIE BUTTER!  The gloss is the best gloss I have ever tried.  It was a recommendation from Emily Noel and I’m glad I picked it up.  It is very comfortable, pretty decent wear time considering it is a gloss, great pigmentation, awesome applicator and the best part… IT’S NOT STICKY.  Let me repeat that… IT IS NOT STICKY!

So that’s it!  That is my go-to look using products out of my August Makeup Basket.  This post was a lot more in-depth than I realized it was going to be.  How did you like it?  Was it helpful to throw in mini reviews about the products?  Let me know in the comments!  What has been your go-to look lately?  Also, do you have any recommendations on really good cruelty-free mattifying primers?  Once I use up all of my primers, I’m definitely going to need a good mattifying primer for Texas.  That does it for me today, I hope you found this interesting or helpful!  Thank you so much for stopping by and until next time!

August 2018 Makeup Basket

august2018makeupbasket

Hey all!  Hope you are having a good Wednesday.  Today I am going to be sharing my monthly makeup basket for August.  I may have done one or two of these in the past, but I thought it would be a great way to help refresh my collection and make sure I am actually using my products.

As you may, or may not know, I am currently participating in a project pan, 13 By Halloween to be precise.  I will link it for you, but all of those products are in my makeup basket, however, I wanted to throw in some other products.  Those are what I am going to be discussing today!  So if you are interested in what else I threw in my makeup basket, then just keep on reading!

shadeandlighteyepalette

Let’s first discuss eyeshadow.  This month I’m going to be working on my Kat Von D Beauty Shade & Light Eye Contour Palette*.  I love this thing, probably my holy grail eyeshadow palette.  I tend to lean towards more matte, pretty neutral looks and this palette covers that.  For the month of August, I am really focusing on the last quadrant of shadows, the more “warm-toned” side.  Luckily, I don’t feel it pulls super warm on me, I am very comfortable using it.  The large light peach shade I’m also going to multitask and use as a blush for this month.

flowerbeautyfoundation

Now, if you have checked out my 13 By Halloween Project Pan, you know I have a foundation in that project.  The reason I threw the FLOWER Beauty Light Illusion Foundation* in the mix is that, for one, I just bought it.  Two, I want to thoroughly test it out before I review it.  I don’t want to rely on first impressions with this foundation.  So, while working on the Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Foundation*, I will also be working on this one.

eyeproductsaug2018

Moving on to the rest of my eyes, I have pulled in a few products that I think will work well together.  For mascaras, I have the L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Waterproof* and the NYX Professional Makeup Worth the Hype*.  For eyeliner, I wanted to play with the NYX Professional Makeup Faux Blacks Eyeliner* in Oxblood and the Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal* in 005 Nude.  The L’Oreal and Rimmel products are not cruelty-free, but I am currently trying to use up both and move them out of my collection.

For eyebrows, after I finish up the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz* in Ebony, I am going to be working on the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade* in Granite.  I have had this pomade for ages and before I move on to the Kat Von D Beauty Signature Brow Precision Pencil* in Graphite, I want to have this finished off.  It is a wonderful product and you definitely get an amazing bang for your buck, for me, it just takes longer to do my brows with this instead of a pencil.  To set the brows, I’m using the NYX Professional Makeup Control Freak Clear Brow Gel*.  I only have 2  brow gels in my collection, this is just my oldest.

For highlight, I decided to pull my Essence Eyeshadow* in The Grammy Goes Glammy (they no longer make this shade, however, Apricotta & Snowflake are amazing fair skin highlighter shades).  I was working on the highlight that went with the contour shade I am trying to use up in my panning project, but it is way too chalky on my skin.  So, I decided to pull this eyeshadow.  Taylor from ThaTaylaa on YouTube introduced me to these single eyeshadows as highlights and they are stunning and literally one or two dollars!

lipproductsaug2018

Last, but certainly not least, lip products.  I wanted to pull in some lip products that I knew were going to work well with the warm-toned look I was going for this month, something that would also work well at work, and pull in some of my newer products.  So, I pulled in the L’Oreal Infallible Pro Matte Liquid Lipstick* in 844 Sweet Tooth, EM Cosmetics Infinite Lip Cloud in Rose Nude, EM Cosmetics True Gloss in Truffle Haze, and Kat Von D Beauty Studded Kiss Creme Lipstick* in Bow N Arrow.  Hopefully switching between these products I can get a better feel for them and let you know what I think.

Well, I think that does it here from me.  What products are you planning on working through this month?  Any new products?  Or are you pulling in some old favorites?  Let me know in the comment section!  Thanks for stopping by and until next time!
