Shop My Stash: December Makeup Basket

LeahERaven.com | December Makeup Basket - Shop My Stash

Hey gang, hope all is well!  Currently, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York is playing in the background and it is a beautiful, chilly day here in Seattle.  For dinner, I’m making Hot For Food’s Vegan Carbonara with Zucchini Cream Sauce, something hearty, warm, and delicious.  But that is not what this post is about, although I could talk about food for DAYS, today I am bringing you my December makeup basket.  I cannot believe we are in the last month of the year and personally my favorite month of the year.  Today is my 2 month anniversary with my boyfriend, believe it or not, he is the one that brought it up, my niece’s 4th birthday, on Wednesday it is Lil’ Bean’s birthday, the 15th Xandria’s birthday, the 16th my birthday, then we got Christmas, then New Years!  What a busy, busy month!  Anyway, let’s get into the makeup I plan on playing around with this month, besides my project pan items!

For my primer’s, I decided to keep working on my Milani Prime Shield Pore Minimizing + Mattifying Face Primer because I SWEAR I am almost finished with this bad boy, and I pulled in my deluxe sized sample of the Peter Thomas Roth Skin to Die For No-Filter Mattifying Primer & Complexion Perfector (do you think they could have done a longer name?)  I’m pretty sure PTR is not cruelty-free so I’d just like to work through another product that is not cruelty-free and get it out of my collection.

Spoiler alert, I am just about done with my Besame Cosmetics Vanilla Brightening Powder, so I wanted to pull in a couple of powders to work on throughout the month.  One of them being my beloved Milani Prep + Set + Glow Illuminating Transparent Powder and one that I’m currently trying out which is the Covergirl Advanced Radiance Pressed Powder in 105 Ivory.

For bronzer, I pulled in my Physician’s Formula Butter Bronzer in Bronzer.  Luckily I’m not a huge bronzer hoarder, I only have 4 bronzers in my collection, least that I can recall, and one of them has pan showing.  So it would be nice, although unlikely, to hit pan in this bad boy.

Highlighters are definitely something that I have way too many of.  So, rotating them is important.  For this month, I decided to pull my Wet N Wild Megaglo Highlighting Powder in Precious Petals for more of a blinding highlight and for a more soft, subtle daytime highlight I pulled in the Catrice Cosmetics Highlighting Powder in Champagne Campaign.

Moving onto eyes, starting out with an eyeshadow palette, I wanted to show some love to my Huda Beauty Smokey Obsessions Palette.  This palette is such a great high-end palette yet such a wonderful bang for your buck!  I think it runs about $27 and the eyeshadows are standard sizes.  The reason for pulling this palette in is because I can get some great daytime appropriate looks as well as go more dramatic for the holidays.  You bet your ass I’m going to be utilizing that silver for New Year’s Eve!

For mascaras, I’m playing around with my two new Covergirl mascaras.  I have the Covergirl Lash Blast Volume Waterproof Mascara in Black/Brown, as well as the Covergirl Lash Exact Waterproof Mascara in Very Black.  I go for Waterproof due to being a dog groomer.  I do not want to risk my mascara running if I get soaked.  And yes, just because I am a dog groomer doesn’t mean I can’t wear makeup to work.

Lastly, we have the brow category!  I have so many different brow products it is not even funny at this rate.  However, in my defense, I tend to blow through most brow products pretty quickly.  I’m still working on my Kat Von D Beauty Signature Brow Precision Pencil in the shade Light Brown.  I think I have about one more month, maybe a month and a half left on that product.  I’ve also pulled in my NYX Professional Makeup Tinted Brow Mascara in Black, as well as the Tame & Frame Tinted Brow Pomade in Black.  I pulled in the pomade, even though I’m not a huge fan of them (just because of how long it takes me to do my brows), for use when I do more intense glam style makeup.  When the holiday season rolls around, I tend to do more “Glam” makeup just for the occasion.

So that’s everything, well everything excluding the stuff that is currently in projects.  If you are curious as to what other makeup items I’m using I will link both my Movie Madness Project Pan and my 12 Pans of Christmas Project Pan for you.  I’m curious to know what items you are pulling in to your monthly makeup basket, let me know in the comments!  I also want to know, if you celebrate Christmas, have you got your Christmas shopping done yet or are you a last minute procrastinator?  For years past I’ve been such a procrastinator, this year, however, I have about 90% of my shopping done and all of those gifts are wrapped, sitting under the Christmas tree!  Well, that does it for me, I hope you guys have a great rest of your day and until next time!  Thanks for stopping by!

GRWM Using Project Pan Items & SUBCULTURE

Hey all, hope everything is going well for you on this Wednesday.  When thinking about what I wanted to post for today, I was stumped for a bit.  Then I thought, I haven’t really done a GRWM type of post in a while, especially using some of my Project Pan items.  So, I thought this would be perfect!  Plus, I am going to be using SUBCULTURE on my eyes and show a look that I wear often and get tons of compliments on.  Also, I will share how I use it to get this palette to work for me.  So, if that seems something you may be interested in, then just keep on reading!

To start out, I always do my face makeup before my eyes.  That is how I have always done it, I’ve tried switching it up and didn’t like it.  Before putting on anything, my face was already washed and moisturized.  First up, I spray the Milani Make It Dewy Setting Spray ($9.99 US).  This product I have not really enjoyed because it looks and feels so greasy, however, I’ve gotten it to work really well as a primer spray.  It helps give a little bit more moisture for the foundation.  Then, I take a small pea-sized amount of the Milani Prime Shield Mattifying Primer ($9.99 US) and press that into the areas where I have really large pores, around my cheek area, nose, forehead, and chin.

For foundation, I mix half a pump of Kat Von D Beauty Lock-It Foundation in L42 ($35 US) with about a pump and a half of the FLOWER Beauty Light Illusion Liquid Foundation in L2 ($13.99 US).  The Lock-It foundation is extremely light on my skin and the FLOWER foundation is a little too dark.  Mixing them together helps give me a better shade match (though, I still manage to look ghostly lol) and helps make the FLOWER foundation not look SO dewy by the end of the day.

Next onto concealing and setting my face.  I take my Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer in Fair ($27 US) and literally do one dot underneath my eyes closer to the tear duct area and one dot on top of my eyelids to use as a primer.  I am VERY lucky to not have terrible darkness under my eyes.  It didn’t really show up on the previous picture.  Plus, this concealer is extremely full coverage and very drying so using very little does help combat the dryness.  To set the concealer, I’ve been taking the Kat Von D Beauty Shade & Light Contour Palette ($49 US) in the lightest shade.  It is a mixture of Lucid & Lyric (I mixed them together and repressed them).  To set the rest of my face, I’m using the Besame Cosmetics Vanilla Brightening Powder ($22 US).  It is pressed into my old Rimmel compact because I have learned I truly hate loose powders haha.

For the rest of the face, I took my No7 Match Made Bronzer in Golden Sand ($12.99 US) and warmed up this ghostly complexion in the “3” method, then took a little bit of Sombre from the Kat Von D Shade & Light Contour Palette ($49 US) and contoured my cheekbones and dusted just a little down the sides of my nose.  For blush, I used the Becca x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Pop Collection blush in Amaretto (limited edition) and highlight I dusted Anastasia Beverly Hills Starlight Illuminator (discontinued) on the high points of my cheekbones, brought that up around my eyebrow and lightly on the tip of my nose and cupids bow.

Moving on to the eyes!  First up, I took the shade MERCURY (a matte deep gray) from the Anastasia Beverly Hills SUBCULTURE Palette ($42 US) and dusted that in windshield wiper motions in my crease.  What I do is literally dip a fluffy brush ONCE into the palette and on a towel that I keep by my side to do my makeup, I dab the excess onto the towel once or twice and it is the perfect amount for my eyes.  For me, this doesn’t bother me, because I’m used to dipping my brush into all of my products, not swirling.  So, just thought I would share that just in case you have this palette and have a hard time using it.

Next, I pick up the shade FUDGE (a warm matte poop brown) on a slightly smaller, more dense brush and do the same with this shade.  I tap ONCE into the shade and dab off the excess.  I then take it and work it into my outer V area and slightly bring it into the crease.

Now, on an even smaller brush, I use the Morphe M506 Brush ($6 US), I pick up the shade ROWDY (a matte deep purple), same method as FUDGE, and place that on top of where I laid down FUDGE, bringing it in a little bit further on my lids.  Now, I know it looks weird right now, unblended, looks like it skips, just stick with me on this!

10102018-subcultureallstar

Now on a smaller fluffy brush, I picked up the shade ALL STAR (a matte maroon), did the same thing of tapping in once, dabbing off the excess, and worked that into my crease.

To blend everything together, I then took a little bit of the shade DAWN (a warm, light beige shade) and swept that over the edges.  See, looks a bit better now don’t you think?

10102018-subculturedawn-eyes

For the lower lash line, I first took a little bit of ROWDY and blended it about 3/4 of the way towards my inner corner, then blended it out with a bit of MERCURY.  Then, I took a bit of my face highlight and put that in my inner corner.  Used a little bit of a nude eyeliner in my waterline and put on a couple of coats of mascara.  The eyeliner I used is the Rimmel Scandaleyes Kajal Kohl Eyeliner in 005 Nude ($4.99 US) and the mascara is Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Mascara ($26 US).  I then set my face using the FLOWER Beauty Hydrating Setting Spray ($12.99 US) and 2 squirts of the Milani Make It Dewy Setting Spray ($9.99 US).  Yes, I only did two squirts, you do more than that and you look like a grease ball, not a glowing goddess lol.

For my eyebrows, I’m still using my beloved Kat Von D Beauty Signature Brow Precision Pencil in Graphite ($20 US) and setting them with my NYX Control Freak Clear Eyebrow Gel ($7.99 US).

Lastly, the lips!  I took the NYX Professional Makeup Suede Matte Lip Liner in Sandstorm ($ US) and outlined my lips.  Then filled them in with Kat Von D Beauty Studded Kiss Creme Lipstick in Bow N Arrow ($20 US) and dabbed a little bit of the bareMinerals Gen Nude Gloss in Yaaas ($18 US).  And here is the completed look!

This has practically been my Go-To look for work every day.  It helps me use so many different shades from the SUBCULTURE palette.  I also get tons of compliments on it, practically every day.  They do say that purple helps bring out green eyes.  Also, don’t mind the crazy hair.  I had a side head shave a while ago and am now dealing with the grow out… it is not enjoyable haha.  I’m also going by to my original hair color, so I am going to be looking wild for quite a bit haha.

Well, that does it here from me.  I hope you found this helpful or interesting, if you did, let me know in the comments!  I’d love to hear from you!  If you have the SUBCULTURE palette, what other color combinations do you enjoy pulling in from it?  Thank you so much for stopping by and until next time!

Anti-Haul: July/August 2018

Today is all about what I am not going to buy.  This idea was originally started by Kimberly Clark on YouTube as a jab to anti-consumerism.  If you watch TV or YouTube, there are ads everywhere, enticing you to purchase this and that.  What I tend to be engrossed in on YouTube is mostly beauty and food related.  Beauty YouTubers review products, get sent PR, talk about and showcase products.  It is extremely easy to become influenced and swayed to purchase such products, myself included.

A couple of months ago, I hauled a few things from Kat Von D Beauty and Black Moon Cosmetics, which I do need to do an update on, and just recently I picked up a few things from ULTA.  Other than that, I have not gone ham on purchasing beauty purchases.  Honestly, pretty much all of the new releases have been extremely blah to me, nothing exciting, and in my opinion, nothing new.  It all looks like the same shit, different packaging.  But without blabbing too much, let’s get into what upcoming releases I am not going to buy.  All pictures are from Trendmood on Instagram.

1. Anastasia Beverly Hills Norvina Palette
First off, I love ABH as a brand.  It is one of my favorite brands, one that I repurchase from often.  I have the Subculture palette, which I do love and enjoy, but none of their other palettes have interested me.  The Modern Renaissance palette is too pink and berry toned, the Soft Glam palette is pretty, but still runs too warm for my taste, and the Norvina palette, which is beautiful, but I would only wear 3 out of the 14 shades. The 3 shades that I would wear, I can easily dupe in my collection.  It is not logical or practical for me to pick up this palette.

norvinapalette

2. Smashbox Ablaze Collection
I have only tried 2 products from Smashbox, one is the Xtreme mascara and the other is their Always On Liquid Lipstick.  This Ablaze collection is an entire warm-tone collection.  With as many warm-tone palettes and collections out on the market right now, not just me, but nobody needs more warm-tones.  The beauty industry is completely oversaturated with warm-toned products.  I feel if you have one, you have them all.  I am also not a fan of warm-tone looks on myself.

smashboxablazecollection

3. Kat Von D Beauty Metal Crush Highlighters & Liquid Highlighters
Now I love Kat Von D Beauty, it is my number 1 favorite brand.  However, these Metal Crush Highlighters I am just not into.  For one, none of the colors I would personally wear, on my face nor my eyes.  Second, the Metal Crush formula is extremely glittery.  Now, I know plenty of people that do enjoy a glitter highlight, for me personally, I enjoy more of a sheen, where it looks like I’m just glowing.  This goes for the liquid highlighters as well, plus I do not use liquid highlighters.  It would be an absolute waste of money and the products would just sit in my collection.

4. Dose of Colors and iluvsarahii Collaboration
Currently, I own two liquid lipsticks from Dose of Colors and I really enjoy them.  I would go as far as saying that they are my favorite liquid lipstick formula.  However, this collection holds no interest for me.  It does look beautiful, don’t get me wrong, however, it does not go with my taste or aesthetic.  None of the lip products I would wear, they also don’t look too original.  They seem incredibly easy to dupe.  The eyeshadow palette, although pretty, reminds me of the latest trends in eye palettes, warmed-tone with a pop of blue/green/turquoise.  The highlighers look very reflective, almost metallic, but would not fair well on my skin tone.

doseofcolorsiluvsarahiicollab

5. Morphe Brushes Dare to Create Palette
Oh, Morphe.  Now, Morphe is still on the Pending List from Logical Harmony and I have seen info go back and forth to whether or not they are cruelty-free.  If they were, I would not pick up this palette.  I have in the past picked up the 350 palette and the 35K palette and decluttered both.  I think I may have one or two of their brushes and honestly, they are nothing to write home about.  What I don’t care for in this palette is there are too many similar shades, once on the eye, they all look the same, it is an extremely large palette, and there is no mirror.  Plus, with the number of large YouTubers who are always saying, “use my code, use my code, here’s my code,” I’m generally just tired of hearing about Morphe and not interested in any of their releases honestly.

morphedaretocreatepalette

So that is it for this round of Anti-Haul’s.  I thought I would keep it simple with only a few products.  I could probably make this a monthly thing of items that I’m not going to buy because there are constantly new releases.  Let me know if you like this kind of post because I can totally keep doing them.  I am also thinking about doing a post about items that I would like to buy.  What are some items that you are not going to pick up and why?  Did you pick up any of the items I listed above and if so, what do you think about them?  Let me know in the comments section!  I’d love to hear about it!

Well, I should probably attend to my girls, it is bath time for them and they are going to be thrilled (NOT).  Until next time!

April Sephora VIB Sale: Haul

*This post contains affiliate links.  There is no cost to you if you use them, but clicking and purchasing through one of them earns me a very small commission.

First off, let me preface this post by saying I should have also included that this is 99.8% a Kat Von D Beauty haul.  If you happened to read my Makeup Aesthetic Tag post, you will have already learned that I love Kat Von D, her makeup and aesthetic, and absolutely love her brand.  One thing I have been debating about for a while is doing a full face of Kat Von D Beauty.  Well, I do have quite of bit of her products, but needed a few others to round out the look.

Kat Von D’s most recent launch is something I have been looking forward too.  I’m always on the hunt for new brow products that can possibly surpass my Anastasia Beverly Hills products, both the Brow Wiz and Pomade.  With that launching 4/20, I decided, fuck it, and placed a full order on Sephora.

sephoravibsalehaul001

When typing up this post, there was another order I placed during the sale, but it hadn’t arrived in time to take pictures, so I will just mention and link the products first.

I picked up another Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick ($20 US) in the shade Flirt.  It is described as a “cheeky brown.”  I have been debating about this color for a while.  I have the shade Spice Girl, which is a brownish mauve, and truly enjoy the feeling of the lipstick on my lips.  The reason I have been debating about Flirt is because DupeThat listed Flirt as a dupe for Cryptic Cosmetics Creepshow ($17 US).  Creepshow has been out of stock for AGES.  Every time I have received a notification of it being back in stock, I’ve arrived too late.  Forewarning you, everything from here on out is nothing by Kat Von D Beauty.  You have been warned. lol

Next, I picked up a Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick ($20 US) in the shade Nahz Fur Atoo, a blood crimson shade.  I have had her liquid lipsticks in the past and have enjoyed them.  They are a little bit more drying than others, but not to where I feel uncomfortable in them.  They also don’t have the greatest staying power on my lips, even when I don’t eat or drink anything.  Again, I don’t mind this because they do layer well in my opinion.  For those wondering, I have had Bow ‘N Arrow and Witches in the past.

The last item I picked up on this separate order was the Kat Von D 24-Hour Super Brow Long-Wear Pomade ($19 US) in Scarlet.  I was debating on also picking up Graphite, but I have yet to use up my Anastasia Beverly Hills DIPBROW Pomade ($18 US) in Granite.  Once I do that and if I enjoy the formula of Scarlet, I will order Graphite.  The reason I ordered Scarlet is because A) I love the color red.  I try and incorporate red into my wardrobe and look every single day.  B) I am thinking of dying my hair red again so I would like to be able to match my brows.  Even if I don’t end up dying my hair red again, I would definitely still incorporate red brows into my look.  Now, let’s get onto the items I have already received, shall we?

sephoravibsalehaul002

The first item I’ll talk about is the Kat Von D Lock-It Foundation ($35 US).  I picked up the shade Light 42 Neutral.  I have had this foundation before, although it has been a while.  I used it up but never repurchased.  I will say, the shade I picked up is a little light for me, but I can still make it work.  The only gripe I have is it claims to be neutral but it runs extremely pink, least on me it does.  I tend to have a more neutral to slightly yellow undertone even though I am quite fair, so the foundation is a bit off on its own.  When I do a full face of Kat Von D Beauty, I’ll review everything more in-depth and show what I mean.  I do plan to pick up another shade, I think Light 45 Warm might be what I am looking for.

Well, since I picked up the foundation, I had to pick up the concealer.  Everything moving forward I have never used or tried before, so all of this will be new for me!  I grabbed the Lock-It Concealer Crème ($26 US) in L1 Neutral and shit.  This is light!  I had to double check to make sure I didn’t pick up the white concealer.  So, safe to say it will be extremely brightening on me.

swatches002

Since I have a swatch of it next to the concealer, I will mention that I picked up a Studded Kiss Crème Lipstick ($19 US) in the shade Bow ‘N Arrow.  This was a recommendation by a few people in the Sephora community tab.  I have been on the hunt for a more brownie nude shade that didn’t run warm and quite a few people recommended the lipstick version of Bow ‘N Arrow, so why the hell not right?

Now onto all the eye products!  Like I mentioned earlier, in my other order I did decide to pick up her pomade, but on this order, I did pick up a Signature Brow Precision Pencil ($20 US) in the shade Graphite.  I did forget to take a picture of a swatch of this, however, I don’t think it would have shown up well because it was a bit light.  I will showcase it in the full face of Kat Von D Beauty though.

What I did swatch was all of the eyeshadows.  I grabbed the Shade & Light Eye Contour Quad (discontinued) in Smoke, another Metal Crush Eyeshadow (discontinued) in Black No. 1, and the Lolita Eyeshadow ($19 US).  I forgot that I picked up another Metal Crush Eyeshadow.  I currently own Raw Power and Thunderstruck and absolutely LOVE THEM.  I’m so excited to play around with Black No. 1 and I hope she is just reformulating them so they are all vegan.  I truly hope she doesn’t get rid of them permanently.  I decided to pick up the Shade & Light Eye Contour Quad in Smoke because I have been debating on it for a while.  Then, once I realized it was being discontinued I was really edging towards picking it up.  Realizing it was still in stock during the sale was the final pushing factor.  The smoothness and quality just from the swatches remind me of the formula of the Shade & Light Eye Contour Palette, so hopefully, I won’t be disappointed.  I will say, Jen from Jen Loves Reviews did a video with Lindsay Schoolcraft  (😍 😍 😍 😍) of Cradle of Filth and she raved about the quads sooo that might also have swayed my overall reason to buy.

swatches001

The last two items are the #70 Pomade Brow Brush ($18 US) and Lock-It Makeup Setting Mist ($26 US).  The brush I decided on because I have seen quite a few reviews of the brow products by Kat and the brush’s tip actually seemed thin.  Not disappointed on that, although I haven’t tried it yet.  The Makeup Setting Mist I have heard mixed reviews on.  I don’t think you can have enough setting sprays, so I went for it.  I haven’t used it on my face yet, but I did test out the mister and holy hell!  That mist is beautiful, extremely fine!  So, I’m excited to see how it works for the face.

Now I know I have done two hauls relatively close to each other, but I promise you there are probably not going to be a lot of hauls in the future.  I am extremely picky about what I purchase and most items that are released do not interest me.  They seem more suited for the Instagram and Beauty Guru scene and clearly, that is not me.  Everything I purchase has to fit within my aesthetic and needs to be practical for me and my look.  Before I went extremely ham on purchasing products because of packaging and hype.  I have for the most part gotten over that, and the overall need to constantly buy.  I am trying at least to be a little more practical in my spending.

Well, I hope you found this somewhat interesting.  If you decided to pick up a few items from the Sephora VIB Sale, I would love to hear what you got!  Also, if there are any items that I picked up that you have or have tried, let me know how it went for you in the comment section.  I think that does it for now, thanks for stopping by and until next time!
