October & November EMPTIES!

LeahERaven.com | October & November 2018 Empties

Hello, hello, hello, it is that time again, it’s all about the empties; products I have used up the past month or so.  I’ve decided to tailor my empties to solely focus on makeup and skincare, mostly because I find home empties pretty boring and for me, repetitive.   Therefore, I am bringing you my favorite part about empties, which is makeup related.  So if you are interested to see what I have used up, then just keep on reading!

Since September, I’ve been able to use up 2 eyebrow products/pencils, although one of them was because I broke it.  The one I successfully managed to completely use up was my Kat Von D Beauty Signature Brow Precision Pencil in the shade Graphite.  This has definitely become my favorite brow product.  I am currently working on another one in the shade Light Brown and have two more backups.  So yeah, definitely a fan.  The other brow pencil I managed to work through was my ELF Instant Lift Brow Pencil in the shade, Soft Brown.  This brow pencil is nice, worked well, but I think it would work better for someone who has naturally thicker brows.  I have very thin brows, so I prefer using a product with more precision.  If I had thicker brows, I would definitely repurchase because $2 for an amazing brow pencil is one hell of a deal!

Moving on, I managed to use up my last mascara that is not cruelty-free.  I tossed my L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Waterproof Mascara in Blackest Black.  This has been my favorite mascara since it came out.  I love what it does for my lashes and sadly I have not found anything that dupes it.  However, the couple Covergirl mascaras that I’ve tried recently are really nice and I cannot complain.  Any other Cruelty-Free Beauty Blogger still find it weird to mention Covergirl amongst the cruelty-free brand list??  Not complaining, just still getting used to it.

I also have moved out another setting spray, this one being the Milani Make It Dewy Setting Spray.  I liked this setting spray at first and the best way I found to use it was underneath makeup, however, not the biggest fan of priming sprays.  I’m not a fan of using it to set my makeup because if you spray too much, your makeup looks greasy, not dewy and does alter the wear time of your makeup in a negative way.  Would not repurchase or recommend.

I also managed to work through another Wet N Wild Under the Sheets Makeup Remover Towelettes.  I’ve actually come to really enjoy these wipes.  I’m not the biggest fan of the cloth because it does fray a bit, however, I can work with it.  The remover itself doesn’t sting my eyes and I feel does a pretty good job at removing a good amount of my makeup.  I tend to always triple cleanse my skin.  If I use the wipes, I then go in with an exfoliating face wash, then a gentle face wash.  This doesn’t remove every bit of makeup and doesn’t get all of the waterproof mascara off, but it breaks up everything enough that once I go in with my cleansers, my face is sparkling clean at the end.  I guess you could call it a pre-cleanse step.  Would absolutely repurchase and currently have 3 backups (they were on sale).

LeahERaven.com | October & November 2018 Empties

Last up, we have the product I am the proudest of.  My Jeffree Star Cosmetics Lip Ammunition Lipstick in the shade Celebrity Skin.  The reason I am so thrilled about this product is because I have NEVER finished a lipstick.  EVER.  I have either decluttered everything, lost it, or switch through products so often, that I have never taken the time to focus on one lip item and use it up.  This is such a huge accomplishment for me and honestly, I felt like I blew threw this product pretty quickly.  The formula was okay, not a revolutionary formula.  It was a bit drying on my lips and that is saying something since my lips can virtually withstand anything.  The shade was also a bit warm for my taste.  I don’t hate the product but wouldn’t repurchase.

That’s it, gang.  Those are the few products I have managed to use up in the past couple of months.  I swear I have used up a few more but I think I tossed them instead of putting them into my Sephora bag where I house my empty products.  What are some products that you have used up recently?  Anything you are most excited and proud about?  Well, I’m going to leave this hear and go celebrate my baby’s birthday!  It’s my Lil Bean’s birthday today, aka Lilith Rose, she is my little old lady.  So, we are going to have pasta and she’s going to have a little cake!  I hope you guys have a wonderful Wednesday and until next time!

How Many Years of Eyeshadow Do I Own?

Hey all, happy Friday!  Hope all is well where you are!  Currently, I am snuggled up on the couch, both Xandria and Lillith passed out and playing Tremors in the background.  But that is not what this post is about, nope.  Today I thought I would share a rough guestimate of how many years of eyeshadow I currently own.  Now, this was not my idea or formulation.  I learned about it through Jessica Lee, Amanda D., and Paula on YouTube.  They are currently going through their collections and guestimating, thanks to a Reddit user who came up with the formula.

I thought this was such a cool idea and hopefully a real eye-opening little experiment.  Now, safe to say, and honestly thank God, I do not own as much makeup as the girls.  All of their videos are linked for your convenience on their names.  Throughout the years that I have been doing makeup, I have gotten rid of a ton of makeup, not realizing it had a name (aka Decluttering).  I’ve thrown a lot of makeup away and given away a lot of makeup to friends.  I don’t want to know how much makeup I have wasted on doing that alone.

Jessica just recently did an updated version of how many eyeshadows she owns, even though her original video was done only a few months ago, and she is currently on her 16th or 17th month of a No-Buy.  So why did she have to redo it??  Well, unfortunately, she as cleaning out an area in her house and found JARS of mineral eyeshadows.  Like actual jars.  I want to say her total now is over 200 years of eyeshadow.  It is absolutely insane!

But we are not here today to talk about Jessica’s numbers, nor Paula’s or Amanda’s.  We are here to talk about mine.  Now, although it is nowhere NEAR their numbers, it is still a large number for me personally.  Most of my eyeshadows are in palette form, I own very little singles.  Trust me, I use to have a ton but gave them all away to friends.  So with all of the palettes and singles, my number came to…. drum roll, please…

8.993976489 years of eyeshadow.  Yep.  Just under 9 years worth of eyeshadow.  With this formula, it is calculating me wearing 5 eyeshadows per look, wearing eyeshadow 6 days a week.  I will link my spreadsheet here for you if you’d like to take a look.  Now again, this is just a guestimation, could be more, could be less.  But this is more to help give a realization of how much makeup is in my or even your collection.  Do I need to have 9 years worth of eyeshadow on hand?  Absolutely not!  However, this helped me see that I won’t need to purchase any more eyeshadows for a good while, which helps me save money!

Another thing this helped me realize, is my makeup addiction is really starting to get under control.  Not this year, but the year before I was VIB Rouge Status.  That means I spent over $1000 at Sephora.  That doesn’t include Ulta.  I’ve been steering away from Sephora and using Ulta more because they carry drugstore brands.  This year, I’m not even going to hit VIB Status with Sephora and I could not be happier.

I would really like to hear about how many years of eyeshadow you have in your collection.  All you have to do is click on the spreadsheet, then make a copy.  It’ll save it to your computer/smartphone on Google Docs and then you can edit it with your current collection.  The other products I’m really interested in to see how many years I own are my lipsticks and my highlighters.  Possibly foundations as well, since I have about 10 or 11 of them.

Well, I know this was a bit shorter of a post, but I hope you still found it interesting.  If you ended up calculating your collection, let me know what your numbers are in the comments!  Was it eye-opening for you?  Or were you not surprised?  That will do it for this post.  I hope you have a great weekend and I will talk to you guys on Monday!

Current Loves & Life Update

Hey lovelies, hope all is going well on this fine Wednesday where ever you are.  Today, I thought I would share some products that I’ve been loving lately from shopping my stash and some life updates since I’ve been so inconsistent with my posts.  First off, how are all of you?  What’s been happening with you all?  If you live in America or celebrate American Thanksgiving, can you believe it is next week?  I am not ready!  Although, I am ready to eat some delicious foods!  Anyway, let’s get on with it!

Currently, I’ve been working on the FLOWER Beauty Light Illusion Foundation mixing it with the C.Y.O. Long-Lasting Lifeproof Foundation.  I really love the combination, the finish, and wear time.  However, with it finally being fall up here in Seattle heading into winter, the FLOWER foundation is running too dark, even mixing it with the C.Y.O. foundation.  So, I’ve pulled out my Fiona Stiles Matte Finish Foundation Concentrate and boy do I NEVER want to part from it.  Unfortunately, I’m not 100% sure if Fiona Stiles is a cruelty-free brand.  So, I’m just going to be cherishing this bad boy.

The next product is my Anastasia Beverly Hills SUBCULTURE Palette.  Yes, yes, the ever so controversial ABH palette.  I love my palette.  As you can clearly see.  The pan for Roxy may be empty, but I still have it.  I just mixed it with a peach shade to make a FrankenBlush.  However, I still have great pan in Dawn & Mercury.  The look I’ve been wearing with this palette gives me such fall vibes.  I’ve been taking a mixture of New Wave & Edge into the crease, then taking a touch of Mercury & Fudge into the crease but more concentrated.  Then running those colors along my lower lash line.  Probably one of my favorite looks that I’ve pulled out from this palette.

Another product I’ve pulled out from my collection and can’t put it down is my Essence Pure Nude Highlighter in 01 Be My Highlight.  Oh my gosh, I truly forgot how beautiful this highlighter is on my skin.  When I’ve seen videos by Charlotte Tilbury talking about her Film Star Bronze & Glow Contour Palette and talking about how the highlight gives the skin a soft candlelight glow, that’s what I think of for this highlighter on my skin tone.  And it was less than $5.  Seriously, I just want to bathe in this highlighter.  Is that possible?

One makeup item that I never thought I would truly see a difference, let alone be obsessed with is a setting spray.  Honestly, most setting sprays I have used tend to give the same effect, do the same thing.  However, Taylor raved about the Catrice Prime and Fine Dewy Glow Setting Spray and holy shitzies.  Makeup game changing.  So much so that I currently have 4 backups.  It melts all of the powders together so beautifully and gives such a dewy, healthy finish, it looks like I’m not wearing face makeup.  Good Lord, love, love, love!

Lastly is a lip product.  I’ve really missed wearing black lipstick.  Black lipstick has always been my jam, so much so that I own several different black lip products.  However, the one I have been reaching for the most is my Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick in Tar Pit.  Hands down the best black liquid lipstick formula I have found.  It is not drying on the lips and super comfortable.  The wear time is pretty good as well!

Now onto what’s been going on/new with me and the girls.  Work wise, nothing too crazy has been going on.  It is starting to pick up again with the holiday’s approaching.  Both the girls are doing well.  Lillith’s skin is finally healing up a bit moving from the heat of the summer to the coolness of winter.  Poor thing, it’s almost like she is allergic to life.

For me, personal life has been amazing.  I actually finally found someone which is insane for me to say.  I’ve been single for about 7 1/2 years.  Yes, you read that correctly, 7 and a half years.  I haven’t been intimate with anyone in over 5 years.  I have been focusing on myself, bettering myself, figuring out my priorities.  I finally decided that I wanted to get back into the game and I instantly found him.  How similar we are and how many “coincidences” there are between us, is almost uncanny.  Love at first sight, for sure, even though I never thought that would happen to me.

End of April we are planning on moving in together and in about a year or two, we plan on moving to Texas.  We have also been planning a few other things, but we are just taking our time and just going to go with the flow of how everything pans out.  He’s so wonderful and I have never been treated like this before.  Makes me realize I have only ever dated boys and not a man.  I definitely don’t regret my previous relationships because I wouldn’t be where and who I am today without the past shaping me.

So other than that, everything else has been going great.  Being in this relationship has been tricky just in finding a balance, figuring out how to fit all of my “before him” activities and duties to coincide well with him.  Do you know what I mean?

Well, I think I have blabbered on enough, wouldn’t you say?  Now I would like to hear from you guys!  What have you been up to lately?  What products have you rediscovered in your collection and have been loving?  Is there anything new and exciting going on in your personal life?  Let me know in the comments!  Thank you so much for stopping by and until next time!

Anti-Haul: Holiday Edition 2018

Hey everyone, hope you are all doing well today!  It has been a crazy month and a half for me, hence the shitty upload schedule.  But here I am with another post, today discussing some major holiday cruelty-free releases that I will not be purchasing.  With the holiday’s right around the corner, it is easy for us all to get sucked into pretty packaging, pretty products, and FOMO.  Most products that launch this time of year tend to be Limited Edition which has the potential to cause some to almost go into a panic wanting to purchase all of the new products.  However, like most products, they get talked about for a bit, put into a drawer, just for the cycle to continue.  Well, here are some of the products that I found that I will not be purchasing this holiday season.  If you are interested in what they are, just keep on reading!  All images were pulled off of the Trendmood Instagram.

Please Note: This post DOES contain affiliate links.  Thank you.

Fenty Beauty Holiday Collection
Fenty Beauty is a line that I appreciate and value, but unfortunately doesn’t really appeal to me.  The foundation, primer, match stix, and highlights didn’t work for me.  With this release, although absolutely beautiful packaging, you should NOT buy products for the pretty packaging.  It is an absolute waste of money.  This collection seems to mostly focus on sparkle and shine, from a mini Fairy Bomb, a Killawatt Foil Freestyle Highlighter Palette,  Metallic Eye & Lip Crayons, Frosted Metal Lipsticks, Metallic Powders, shimmer Match Stix set, and a couple of sets of Mattemoiselle lipsticks.  Again, looks absolutely beautiful, but I am not a fan of super shimmery, glittery, metallic products like this.  These products would never get touched in my collection.

Dose of Colors MICKEY MOUSE Collection
I currently have two shades of the Dose of Colors Matte Liquid Lipsticks and they are probably my favorite if not one of my favorite formulas.  They also have out some glosses, stick lipsticks, eyeshadows, and highlighters.  I am quite interested in trying those formulas down the line, once I’ve used up more of my products.  This collection offers a few liquid lipstick shades, 3 regular lipsticks, and an eyeshadow palette that has a highlighter in it.  This, in theory, would be a great way to sample a few more products.  I’m not interested, however, because the shades in the palette are shades I know I already have in my collection and the shades for the liquid lipsticks and regular lipsticks would not be that unique to my collection and seem to run a bit warm.  I do not like most lip products that run warm, they look weird against my skin tone.

Jouer Cosmetics
Jouer, in general, is a brand that unfortunately doesn’t interest me.  They have beautiful packaging, but beyond that none of the lip shades, face products, eyeshadows have caught my eye and lured me into purchasing.  Same goes with this collection.  Packaging is an absolute A+ from me.  I love how beautiful and classic the packaging is, but the products inside.  Meh.  The eyeshadow palette is a massive turn off for me, because for one all of the shades look very glittery, which is not my style, and for me, those shades would be difficult for me to work with because I don’t feel I can make a completed and cohesive look.  After working on the Kat Von D Beauty Shade & Light Contour Palette and trying to use it up, I will never buy a face palette.  Several of the lip products look similar in shade and the blush is a shade I do not wear.

Makeup Geek At The Stroke of Midnight Collection
Now, this is one of the Holiday releases I am actually really tempted into purchasing.  Not so much for the lashes or lip products, but for the palette.  Those matte shades are right up my alley and those metallic shades look stunning.  I love Marlena and I love Makeup Geek shadows.  However, the reason I won’t be purchasing this is again, I feel I have very similar shades in my collection.

Picture Credit To TRENDMOOD1 of INSTAGRAM | Jeffree Star ALIEN Collection

Jeffree Star Cosmetics ALIEN Collection
If anyone knows how to do colorful and unique collections, it is Jeffree Star, this collection being no exception.  From the design of the packaging, shade selection, and names, he really knows how to pull it all together.  I’ve purchased his lip scrubs before, great quality and flavors, but they ended up going to waste because I do not use lip scrubs.  I’m currently panning a Lip Ammunition and even though I love the color, the formula isn’t anything spectacular.  The liquid lipstick formula is honestly hit or miss for the shades I have purchased.  Unicorn Blood & Dominatrix were a bit patchy for me and wore off pretty quickly (granted, I’m pretty hard on my lips hehe), but Celebrity Skin & my personal favorite Posh Spice were great.  The reason I’m not interested in anything with this collection is the shades.  None of the shades for the lip products appeal to me and the only shade I’m interested in in the palette is the dark grey shade, which I have in my collection.

Now, I know there are tons of holiday releases happening, honestly they happen every year, but those are the ones that A) are Cruelty-free and B) caught my eye.  What are some holiday beauty releases that have caught your eye?  Any that you might purchase or are there some you will definitely pass on?  Let me know in the comments below! The only item I picked up for the holiday releases was the Anastasia Beverly Hills SULTRY Palette.  No regrets!  Anyway, that does it for me!  Until next time, I hope you have a great rest of your day!

September 2018 Empties!

LeahERaven.com | September 2018 Empties

Hey guys, hope you all are doing well!  Today I’m going to be sharing my September empties.  Sadly, this month I don’t have too many products, HOWEVER, I have some really great makeup empties!  I’m beyond thrilled about my makeup empties.  So, without going too long on the intro, let’s get into the products I’ve been able to use up this past month!

Please Note: This post DOES contain affiliate links.  Thank you.

LeahERaven.com | September 2018 Empties - Febreze Air Effects Fresh-Fall Pumpkin Air Refresher

Febreze Air Effects Fresh-Fall Pumpkin Air Refresher ($4.94 US for 2-Pack)
I am pretty sure I have had at least one of these every single month since I’ve started documenting my empties.  I’m trying to use up my backstock.  I still have 8 of these… I know, I know.  However, I absolutely love this spray, it smells amazing!  Unfortunately, Febreze is not cruelty-free so I would not repurchase this product whenever I use up all of them.

LeahERaven.com | September 2018 Empties - Bath & Body Works Sensual Amber Shower Gel

Bath and Body Works Sensual Amber Shower Gel ($12.50 US)
I say it takes me roughly two months to use up a shower gel, so I am slowly trucking along with my Sensual Amber back stock.  It really pisses me off that Bath & Body Works decided to start selling in Mainland China because this body wash is my absolute FAVORITE.  Now, after I use all of my backstock, I am going to have to go searching for a good amber body wash.  If you have any suggestions, please leave them in the comments section below!

LeahERaven.com | September 2018 Empties - Assured 100% Pure Cotton Rounds

Assured 100% Pure Cotton Rounds ($1 US Dollar Tree)
Yet another packet of cotton rounds down.  I love going to the Dollar Tree and picking these up, they work great for me.  I use them with Micellar Water, with my Toner, and with removing nail polish.  Can’t complain!

LeahERaven.com | September 2018 Empties - Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Treatment Eraser Concealer

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Treatment Concealer in Fair ($9.99 US)
This was apart of my 13 By Halloween Project Pan and I am beyond thrilled to move out a concealer, especially a concealer that is not cruelty-free!  It does have a nice creamy formula and I understand why it is such a cult classic.  But, you can find plenty of other wonderful, creamy concealers that don’t attribute to animal cruelty.

LeahERaven.com | September 2018 Empties - Wet N Wild Photofocus Pressed Powder

Wet N Wild Photofocus Pressed Powder in Warm Light ($4.99 US)
Yet another product from the Halloween project pan.  I am so happy to move this out.  I am personally not a fan of this powder.  As I said in my last update, I felt I had to really dig into the product in order to get a decent amount of product on my brush.  Then, it didn’t even set my makeup.  It was still tacky, regardless of how much product I felt I was using.  Great price point, but not a product I will be repurchasing.

LeahERaven.com | September 2018 Empties - Maybelline Fit Me! Loose Finishing Powder

Maybelline Fit Me! Loose Finishing Powder in 05 Fair ($7.99 US)
Guys, I cannot believe this one!  I am so blown away that I finished up a loose setting powder!  Usually, these things take ages!!  But I have been working diligently on this powder, using it to set my Wet N Wild powder actually.  The Wet N Wild powder was a tad dark and this powder was ghostly, so it did help almost balance each other.  This was a nice powder, but as we know, not cruelty-free.  I also really hate loose powders.  So, Leah.  If you are reading this.  Do not buy any more loose powders, you hate them! lol  This was also the last product in my powder collection that was not cruelty-free.  I’m getting there guys!

Alright guys, so that does it for my September Empties.  Like I said, I didn’t have too many products this time around, but I am really thrilled about my makeup empties.  Some big items for me.  What are some products that you used up this month?  Let me know in the comments!  Anything you were particularly proud of?  The loose powder blew my mind!  Well, I don’t really have too much left to say, except I hope you have had a great Monday and until next time!  Thanks for stopping by!

Project Pans

Movie Madness Project Pan – Intro

LeahERaven.com | Movie Madness Project Pan - Intro

Hey everyone, hope you all had a great weekend.  Saturday I went to the Pumpkin Patch with one of my besties and her adorable (although wild) little girl.  It was a perfect day for it, overcast, cool breeze, and luckily not too many people there.  They had a hayride to Minion Ville, yes as in actual minion’s lol.  Threw some apples at Bigfoot and wandered aimlessly in an Alice in Wonderland corn maze.  It was loads of fun.  For today, however, I am doing my introduction to the Movie Madness Project Pan.  It is originally a PANtastic Ladies collab, it is a panning group on Facebook, but I learned about it through Jessica on YouTube.  Here intro video I will link here for you.  The project runs from Sept. 28 through Dec. 28 and you can pick anywhere between 4 to 6 products based on any movies you want.  My favorite number being 4, that is what I went with.  So, if you are curious as to what movies I picked and what items I tagged them with, just keep on reading.

Note: This post DOES contain affiliate links.

LeahERaven.com | Movie Madness Project Pan: Hocus Pocus - OPI Black Onyx Nail Polish

1. Hocus PocusOPI Black Onyx Nail Polish ($10.50 US)
If you haven’t learned by now, or if you are new here, Halloween is my favorite Holiday, along with Devil’s Night and Dia de Los Muertos.  I’m also an avid horror fan.  Hocus Pocus is a staple year-round honestly, but especially during the Halloween season.   I chose the Black Onyx nail polish in correlation to when the Sanderson sisters transform Thackery into a black cat.  “Twist the bones and bend the back.  Trim him of his baby fat.  Give him fur black as black, just like this.”  Yes, I quoted this without looking it up.  I can practically quote this movie word for word.  The goal for this is hopefully to use half.  If I stay diligent on painting my nails.  My nail polish chips easily because I am so rough with my hands, usually within 2 to 3 days my polish chips.  So, if I can be diligent on removing old polish and putting new polish on, this shouldn’t be a problem.  This product is also not cruelty-free so I will feel great about moving out another non-cruelty-free item.

LeahERaven.com | Movie Madness Project Pan: Bram Stoker's Dracula - Kat Von D Beauty Liquid Lipstick in Nahz Fur Atoo

2. Bram Stoker’s DraculaKat Von D Beauty Nahz Fur Atoo Liquid Lipstick ($20 US)
Red lips are synonymous with the holiday season and how more perfect to pair this lipstick with this movie?  Honestly, there is not a better match.   When I think of an ideal red lipstick shade for me, this is it.  It is a deeper, blood red, which I feel comfortable wearing.  True reds I don’t think work well for me, but I absolutely adore this shade!  There is no way in hell I will be able to finish this product, but I’m aiming for about 1/4 of the product gone by the end of this.

LeahERaven.com | Movie Madness Project Pan: The Silence of the Lambs - L'Occitane Dry Skin Hand Cream

3. The Silence of the LambsL’Occitane Dry Skin Hand Cream ($29 US)
Do I really need to give the reason why I chose this product for this movie?  Do I?  I mean… really?  I have the lotion, but I never rub it on my skin.  Hehe.  With winter coming, my hands can sometimes dry out a bit since they are in water so often.  Hopefully having this item in a project will help me be diligent on using this up and moving it out of my collection since it is another product that I have that is not cruelty-free.

LeahERaven.com | Movie Madness Project Pan: Se7en - Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer

4. Se7enTarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer ($27 US)
I saved the BEST movie for last.  If you don’t know, Se7en is my all time favorite movie, so of course, since we get to pick any movies we want to correlate products within a project, I chose this movie!  The reason I chose the concealer for this is because I am a Glutton for punishment.  Get it?  Glutton?  Part of the 7 deadly sins?  Okay, I’ll stop.  I didn’t realize how far I’ve actually made it with this product already.  However, there is NO WAY IN HELL I will finish up this concealer.  I’m just aiming for progress, however far I get.

So that’s it.  That does it for my 4 products for the Movie Madness Project Pan.  Are you doing this project also?  If so, what products and movies did you pick out?  If you are not doing, think about joining in!  I’ve been having so much fun panning products, working through my collection and with this one being so themed and matching up items, it was even more fun!  For this project, I plan on updating once a month, just like my other products.  Well, this post was the shortest I’ve done in a while!  Thank you so much for stopping by and until next time!

PS.  13 By Halloween Update #2 is coming Wednesday I believe, so get ready for that!

Review: FLOWER Beauty Light Illusion Liquid Foundation

LeahERaven.com | Review: FLOWER Beauty Light Illusion Liquid Foundation

Hey guys, hope you all are doing well!  In Seattle today, it is absolutely gorgeous!  It’s a beautiful sunny day, there’s a light cool breeze, and not a cloud in the sky.  Some of the trees are already turning colors and I am in love!  However, that’s not what I came to talk about today.  Today is my review on the FLOWER Beauty Light Illusion Liquid Foundation.  I’ve been using this foundation for a couple of months now and I feel I have a pretty good grasp on the foundation.  So if you are curious as to what I think about it, then let’s get into it!

Note: This post DOES contain affiliate links.

FLOWER Beauty, if you don’t know, is actually Drew Barrymore’s brand. It started off in Walmart and is also now carried in Ulta.  The foundation comes in a glass bottle with white and rose gold packaging, has a pump, and comes with 1.01 fl oz of product.  On Ulta’s website, it retails for $13.99 US and they offer 12 shades.  Referencing Ulta’s website, the foundation is supposed to have buildable coverage, a soft luminous finish, and feel weightless on the skin.

With the basics out of the way, let’s get onto the actual review, shall we?  For the application, I prefer using a sponge.  I’m not a fan of brushes, but I did try both with this product.  With a sponge, you definitely get less coverage, but for me, it is not significantly less.  The brush side looks really nice as well but a bit streaky so I just smoothed it over with a sponge. Upon first use, I did not use any primer, I just washed and moisturized my face as normal.  Everything applied evenly and smoothly.  Right away I noticed how dewy it was.  My skin looked so glowy but not greasy.  I have normal to combination oily skin.  I get really oily on my forehead, nose, cheeks, and chin.  I put on a small amount of concealer, just under my eyes then set my entire face with a translucent powder.  I finished the rest of my makeup and went throughout my day.  Within about 3 hours, my oils started really showing through and it was downhill from there.  I didn’t look glowy, I looked greasy.  I kept this foundation on for about 11 hours that initial day and by the end of it, I looked like I sank my face in a tub of oil.  HOWEVER, this foundation did not break down anywhere.  Not my nose, not in between my eyebrows, not my chin, nowhere.  It stayed fully intact.  I was THOROUGHLY impressed.

Fast forward to roughly 2 months later.  I have tried this foundation several ways, with different primers and have tried mixing it with other foundations and here is what I learned.  For one, I do really love and enjoy this foundation but I cannot wear it on its own (but I will try on its own during the winter time to see if I have the same results as in summer).  I like it best with a pore-filling, mattifying primer in my oily spots and mixing it with an extremely matte foundation.  My favorite foundation (holy grail status) is the Fiona Stiles Matte Finish Foundation Concentrate.  When mixing the Light Illusion foundation with the Fiona Stiles, it did take a little longer for my skin to appear greasy.  However, mixing it with the Kat Von D Beauty Lock-It Foundation, my skin had more of a demi-matte finish initially and had a bit better control on keeping my oils at bay.  Also, quick side note, I fucked up and grabbed the wrong shade of both the FLOWER Beauty foundation (L2 which is too dark) and Kat Von D (L42 way too light).  Mixing them together not only gives me an ideal finish but an ideal shade!

So, for this review, I am going to showcase it in my ideal method which is mixing it with the Kat Von D Beauty Lock-It Foundation and a little bit of the Milani Pore-Filling + Mattifying Primer.  I did a little over a 10-hour wear test, with no touch-ups, blotting, or powdering throughout the day.  The only thing I changed was my lip color.  Also, these photos are unfiltered, and the only “editing” I did was cropping, adding the borders, and text.  I did not touch up the photos in any way.

I applied my foundation at about 8:15 in the morning with a beauty sponge.  Overall, it looked really smooth, didn’t look heavy or cakey anywhere, but I did notice it looked a little weird on the top of my nose.  I did set my face with a light translucent powder all over to help set the foundation because it was still a bit tacky and because I do get oily.  As you can see from the pictures above, I feel my skin has a demi-matte finish and looks really smooth, and did not feel heavy on the skin.  Quick side note, don’t mind the crazy hair.  It’s been dyed black and I had a side head shave and am now growing it out to my original color… so I’m going to be having crazy hair pictures for a while.  Plus, I don’t mess with my hair anyway.  It always goes up in a ponytail.  Anyway, all of my products, concealer, powders, etc. blended out and melded onto my skin without any issue.  I also want to note, I always set my face just to meld all the powders together, but for this one, I just used a basic setting spray, that didn’t affect wear time or finish.

My first check-in was about 4 and a half hours later around 12:45pm.  I did notice a slight oxidation throughout the day, I’d say about half a shade darker but not super noticeable.  At this time, it did start looking oily on my T-Zone area and was getting slightly cakey looking around my mouth, but nothing excessive and it was wearing off the tip of my nose only because I kept messing with my nose.  Looking really up close, the foundation combination was not breaking apart due to natural wear.  It still, in my opinion, looks really good, I actually like the level of dewiness up to this point.  It also still felt very lightweight on the skin.

My final check-in was about 6:30pm, which was a little over 10 hours of wear.  I started getting a migraine and wanted to wash everything off and go to bed.  Looking up close at the foundation, it was still a bit cakey looking around my mouth area, but it looked about the same as the first check-in, so it did not seem like it got worse throughout the day.  My oils were definitely poking through at this point and I did look pretty greasy.  It also wore off a little around my mouth because I ate a very messy sandwich, which who can really blame any foundation for wearing off then, right?  However, just like in the first check-in and every time I have worn this foundation, it did not break apart ANYWHERE on me.  My nose was still intact, cheeks, forehead, it didn’t get weird or patchy anywhere.  I could not believe how well this foundation held up.

I also wanted to show you guys how it looked powdered.  Besides the mouth area, putting just a little bit of powder in my really oily area toned down the oils significantly and least, in my opinion, looks almost as good as when I first applied it.  What do you think?

Overall, I really love this foundation.  I’m excited to try this foundation by itself in the winter time and see if my oils don’t pull through as quickly as during the summer.  I was absolutely blown away by the fact that my oils did not break apart the foundation when wearing it alone or mixing with other foundations, because most of my other foundations do.  I would say this foundation has about a medium coverage, but buildable.  When wearing it alone, when I went to build up certain areas, I was able to get a bit more coverage and the foundation did not bunch up, look cakey, or move around the first layer.  I would recommend this foundation, if you can find your shade and if you like really dewy foundations.  I think this would be great for extremely dry skin up to combo oily skin.  I have a few dry patches around my nose and I did not notice it emphasizing the dry patches or texture on my skin.  If you are straight up oily, I think you might like it, but you would need to be diligent about powdering or blotting every few hours.  I’m not a chick who blots my makeup or powders throughout the day.  The only thing I ever touch-up is my lipstick.  Whenever I run out of this foundation, I will absolutely pick it up again, this time in the right shade.

Well, this was yet another long review.  I tried to be as thorough as possible and I hope I covered all the points.  If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to leave them in the comments and I’ll try and answer you as soon as I can!  If you have tried this foundation already, let me know what you thought of it.  Do you love it?  Hate it?  So, so?  Let me know!  Also, do you have any cruelty-free foundation recommendations?  I also love trying new foundations, although I do need to get through with some in my collection right now, I don’t mind making a list of to-try.  I feel I have blabbered on long enough.  Thank you so much for stopping by and until next time!
