2018 Makeup Inventory – Part 4: Highlighters

LeahERaven.com | Makeup Inventory Part 4: Highlighters

Hey guys, how are you doing today?  Hope all is well for a Monday.  Did you have a good weekend?  Nothing exciting on my end, just went grocery shopping.  But that’s not what we are here for today, is it?  Nope.  Today is Part 4 of the ever long Makeup Inventory series.  Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3 are linked for you, just in case you missed those.  Forewarning you, this is going to be a long one.  For some God awful reason, I have a love of highlighters although once placed on the skin, they all tend to look similar.  Now, I know I am not the only one who has a love affair with highlighters.  Admit it, you do too! Hahaha  I have tried my best to shorten this as much as possible, but it still is going to be a long one, so be prepared!  Well, enough blabber, let’s move on to the glow!

Total: 16

LeahERaven.com | Anastasia Beverly Hills Starlight Illuminator

Anastasia Beverly Hills
Starlight Illuminator (discontinued) – 2
If you have read a few of my posts by now, you will know this is my all-time favorite highlight.  It sits on my skin just perfectly, giving me this beautiful pale gold sheen to my skin.  Literally, a piece of me died inside when I realized Anastasia discontinued this.  I happened to get a back up from Glambot that I am cherishing, once this one is gone (though I’m sure it will take me YEARS), it’ll be somewhat a sad day in this household lol.  However, the Urban Decay Sin highlighter, mentioned below, is an EXACT dupe.  So, I think I’ll manage haha.

LeahERaven.com | Bitter Lace Beauty Highlighters

Bitter Lace Beauty
1. Bloodlust ($18 US – Limited Edition)
Regular Link
Bloodlust is described as a gives red with a warm amber shift to it and contains fine metallic shimmers in it.  This is a great dupe for Kat Von D’s Metal Crush Eyeshadow in Raw Power and thinking on it more, I should have moved this to the eyeshadow section because I do not use this as a highlighter.  But, we are already here so I’m just gonna leave it.

2. Deadly Nightshade ($9 US – being discontinued)
Regular Link
Deadly Nightshade is described as a cooler toned grey-beige with green and pink undertones.  It also contains larger sized shimmers in the product.  Now I know that maybe you are thinking a red highlighter is unique, but this shade tops that.  I personally have never seen a shade like this.  However, I have yet to use it as a highlight so I’m not sure how it works on the face.  Honestly, I only purchased this because of the Nightmare Before Christmas reference.  No other reason.

3. Slay (Halloween Limited Edition)
Slay was a limited edition Halloween shade.  It is no longer advertised on their website.  To me, it looks like a white-based gold that shifts a bit green with fine shimmers throughout, but I do know for sure the “blood splatters” is Bloodlust (it was mentioned on the Bloodlust page).  Being a Halloween freak, I had to get this.  No other explanation needed.

LeahERaven.com | Black Moon Cosmetics Moonlighters

Black Moon Cosmetics
1. Centipede ($22 US)
Regular Link
Centipede is described as a pale, banana yellow moonlighter (see what they did there?)  I have definitely enjoyed this shade and the shade I’m going to mention next as highlighters.  They are very pretty on the skin, giving more of a natural type of glow but can be built up.  However, they are not a revolutionary type of shade or formula and a bit on powdery side, though they do smell nice.

2. Squid ($22 US)
Regular Link
Squid is described as a diamond white moonlighter.  Very pretty on the skin, this one gives off a more icy type of glow, but like I mentioned before, nothing revolutionary about this shade or formula.  Although, they do offer more interesting shades, such as a lime green, blue, “root beer bronze,” pink & gold, and a lilac purple.

LeahERaven.com | Essence

Essence
1. Pure Nude Highlighter in 10 Be My Highlight ($4.49 US)
Affiliate Link | Regular Link
The best way I can describe this shade is a nude glow.  I will say, anyone lighter than me and I think it’ll look like a nude stripe on your face.  For me, this is more of a natural type of highlighter, where it gives you more of a lit from within type of glow; you just appear radiant in my opinion.  Definitely recommend for those of you my skin tone or deeper if you like a natural glow (and hey, doesn’t break the bank!)

2. Single Eyeshadow in 08 Apricotta ($1.99 US)
Affiliate Link | Regular Link
Let me stop you, I know this says eyeshadow and it is marketed as such.  However, this shade is STUNNING as a highlight.  This shade, as well as the next one I’m going to mention, were product recommendations from Taylor (ThaTaylaa) as highlights, and boy was she right!  If you want a BLINDING type of highlight, this is right up your alley.  This shade has more of a light peachy tone to it and looks so wet on the skin.

3. Single Eyeshadow in 19 The Grammy Goes Glammy (discontinued shade)
This shade I guess was discontinued because I could not find it on the website.  This is more of a white champagne shade and just like the previous shade, stunning as a highlight.  I do know Essence still makes the shade Snowflake if you are looking for more of a white highlight and Cotton Candy which looks more like a pink based highlight.  I wish they would re-add this shade because it is lovely!

Physicians Formula
Shimmer Strips Custom All-in-1 Nude Palette for Face & Eyes in Natural ($13.99 US)
Affiliate Link | Regular Link
If you were to ask me, out of all the highlighters I own, what I would recommend if you are looking for a great highlighter when you are just starting out, I would say pick up this one.  Why?  It is an incredibly multitasking product AND you can get several different shades of highlight.  Plus, it’s drugstore.  You can go pink, bronze, white, champagne, you name it, it’s offered in this product.  Honestly, you can multitask pretty much any product, but this one is very compact and gives you a wide variety of shades.  Great, great product.

Urban Decay
Afterglow 8-Hour Powder Highlighter in Sin ($26 US)
Affiliate Link | Regular Link
I love this highlighter, it reminds me so much of the Anastasia Starlight Illuminator that I love so much.  The effect is a little more subtle than the Anastasia one but can be built up.  It blends so beautifully into the skin and looks so glowy.  Love, love, love this one!

Wet N Wild
1. Megaglo Highlighting Bar in Fire (limited edition – $6.99 US)
Regular Link
I only picked this up because it is the Fire element.  I’m a sucker for Zodiac inspired makeup/themes.  I’m such a Sagittarius, it is not even funny.  However, even though this is not very expensive, this is the EXACT shade of the Megaglo Highlighting Powder in Precious Petals.  How do I know that?  Because I own Precious Petals.  So, if you were debating about this product or you feel like you missed out on it, pick up Precious Petals and you’ll be fine.  Same formula, same feel, and blendability, same shade.

2. Megaglo Highlighting Bar in Earth (limited edition – $6.99 US)
So, being a Sagittarius, I am a fire sign.  Why did I pick up Earth?  It looked pretty.  More of a shade up my alley that I would wear as a highlight, more of a champagne.  Some people like the Megaglo highlighters, some hate them.  I actually quite enjoy the formula.  They feel very soft and almost creamy.  I know some can contain very small micro glitter in them, but I don’t feel like it overpowers the look.  Plus, the price can’t be beat in my opinion!

3. Megaglo Highlighting Powder in Precious Petals ($4.99 US)
Affiliate Link | Regular Link
Precious Petals can be a bit dark for my skin tone, although I can get it to work if I really buff it into the skin or have a slight tan from the summer sun.  It is more of a warm peach highlight, absolutely beautiful.  I just need to be careful with it for my skin tone so it doesn’t end up looking like a stripe on my face.

4. Megalo Highlighting Powder in White Raven (limited edition – $4.99 US)
Regular Link
This is sad.  Most of the highlighters I purchased, I have some way of using them, whether it be on the face or the eyes.  This shade I only purchased because 1) it was apart of the Goth-O-Graphic collection and has a skull imprinted on the product and 2) it has Raven in the name.  I hate the color purple.  Like hate.  I hate pink more but purple is a close 2nd.  And this is a white highlighter that shifts purple.  Yep.  Not wearing, just meant to look pretty in my collection.

Alright y’all so that does it for part 4.  I wonder how long it would take me to use up all of these highlighters.  Well, all except for White Raven.  I think a lot of us are guilty in getting sucked into these pretty highlighters being showcased online or in store when in reality, they all look the same on the skin.  There is not that much of a difference between one white gold shade to the next, you know what I mean.  But they are so pretty and we just HAVE to have them for some reason or another.  I’m curious, take a look at your collection and let me know how many highlighters you have in yours in the comments.  My biggest sucker points for me are foundations, lipsticks, and highlighters.  Every time man, every time.  With that being said, I think that does it for me.  I hope you guys have a great day and until next time!
