Training for My 1st Half-Marathon

Although I have mentioned it briefly on Instagram, I don’t believe I have shared it here on my blog.  In June I shall be attending and running my first ever half-marathon.  Honestly, if you were to tell my younger self that I would be doing this, I would have laughed in your face.  Seriously, I have never been a huge fitness person, clearly, working out was always a thing I dreaded and thought was pointless, and running would have been something I would do if a fucking zombie was chasing me.  Sure as shit never would have thought I would WILLINGLY sign up for a half-marathon.

Am I nervous?  You bet your ass I am.  I’m not ready.  I can’t even run a solid 30 minutes in a row.  Do you think that is going to stop me?  Hell no!  I have let my life be a constant string of disappointments, never accomplishing anything.  Seriously, anything.  Well, I did finish high school, so there is that.  Couldn’t finish college, when I lost weight the first time I quit at 165 pounds and didn’t keep going to reach my healthiest weight (then gained it all back, literally ALL back).  All of these “dreams” I had, I haven’t accomplished one of them.  So, with this marathon, I am going to finish something dammit, even if it fucking kills me.  BFF, please know CPR hahaha

Do you wanna know what I am also going to make sure I finish this half-marathon?  My best friend since high school is flying up for the weekend and we are running this thing together.  This half-marathon is huge and I am so lucky to have my bestie here to share this with.  And trust me, there will be plenty of pictures, most likely before and after the race and I can’t wait to share them!

So, with all of that being said, how am I training for this bad boy?  Well, I have done my fair of research, Google and Pinterest have been a great help.   I’ve been taking some notes and trying to figure out the best approach.  From what I have gathered overall, I want to be running every other day, which I am still doing my Couch to 5k program, and to add in Yoga or Pilates and to throw in some cross training.

Not going to lie, haven’t been doing any of those.  So, for April that is my goal.  I really need to focus and buckle down on my workouts.  I know I have said that every, single, month and have yet to put my money where my mouth is, so to speak.  However, I need to get serious about this.  I don’t want to get injured running my first race.

I have found some workout routines here and there that I am going to give a try.  If you have any recommendations, I would love to hear about them in the comments below!  Every little bit helps.  Once I put together a solid workout routine that I have been ACTUALLY following, I will definitely post it here.  My goal is running Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, the Elliptical Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, and Yoga Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.  That’s the goal anyway.  I’ll try and hold myself accountable by posting to my Instagram as well.  Well, I think I have blabbered enough for one evening.  Thanks for stopping by and until next time!
